From 2014 to today Liftable Media Inc. has grown from nothing to one of the top 50 largest digital media networks in the country. Founded by CEO Patrick Brown, and now carried on by an incredible team, Liftable Media is seeking to make a positive impact through media of all forms. The progress and achievement that mark these past four years is credited to the company’s hard work and passion for creativity, respect for their users, and a mission to drive positive cultural change.
In 2009, while still in college, Patrick Brown built and designed the first version of WesternJournalism.com for the Western Center For Journalism. At the time the site simply linked out to other content producers and served as a hub for important current events in the political sphere. The site was established to provide an alternative for readers fed up with the overt politicization of mainstream media outlets. Over time, the audience grew and writers and thinkers began submitting original pieces to be published in full.
In 2011, now working on the site full time as Director of Marketing, Patrick created the Facebook page Western Journalism and began publishing political news and commentary from the site on the growing social network. It wasn’t until 2013, however, that Western Journalism hired its first full time staff writer and branched into publishing only original content. During this time, the site grew rapidly, reaching several hundred thousand readers daily by the end of 2013.
The beginning of 2014 marked a strategic turning point for Western Journalism, as the staff began focusing heavily on their Facebook audience, experimenting with engaging titles, and analyzing results in real time. By May 2014, over four million readers were reading Western Journalism.
In mid-2014, Patrick left Western Journalism to found Liftable Media Inc. and it’s first brand, the uplifting lifestyle site, Liftable.com. Liftable Media’s founding mission is to be a positive influence on culture, rather than a negative influence, as so many media companies are. We took what we’d learned in building social media optimized content on Western Journalism and by November five million unique visitors were reading Liftable.com.
Liftable Media still maintained close contact with the Western Journalism staff, and recognizing the overlap in audience and mission, offered to buy WesternJournalism.com. The offer was accepted and Liftable Media made it’s first acquisition, officially integrating WesternJournalism.com into Liftable Media on January 1st, 2015.
Not long after, Liftable Media was approached by the founder of ConservativeTribune.com, a conservative opinion blog that had seen huge success on Facebook. The founder wanted to work on other projects, and because of his respect for Western Journalism, asked if Liftable Media would buy it. So, in April 2015 Liftable Media made its second large acquisition, buying ConservativeTribune.com. Since joining the Liftable Media network ConservativeTribune.com has doubled its reader base to about 20 million unique visitors each month, secured its spot as a top 100 site in the United States, and consistently outperforms, post for post, nearly all digital publishers on Facebook.
Since that time, Liftable Media has continued to grow in both reach and quality, and we hope to continue this for years to come. Liftable Media will continue to innovate, experiment, and measure results as we strive to give a better experience to our users and partners and to better drive positive culture change. This level of focus and strategy used then and now is what allows Liftable Media to continue to reach new milestones in traffic, influence and engagement.
In 2016, Liftable Media was proud to be a top 50 Digital Publisher, hold two of the top 100 websites in the United States (according to Alexa.com), and continually break new highs with 41 million unique website visitors, and more than 100 million offsite video views in its network in Sept 2016.
In June 2017, Liftable Media announced the acquisition of Patriot Depot, an e-commerce site that offers supplies and apparel for Heartland America. The acquisition has allowed the opportunity for Liftable Media to diversify its sources of revenue and become a top source for news and merchandise as well.
Most recently, Liftable Media has undergone significant restructuring to maximize its brand and presence. In the fall of 2017, Western Journalism was transformed into The Western Journal, a strong statement of maturity for what has become an established news source across the country. Then, in February of 2018, Liftable Media enfolded The Conservative Tribune, Liftable, and the Wildcard under The Western Journal umbrella. Today, The Western Journal stands as a robust, far-reaching news publication offering the three successful news sections for conservative political commentary, lifestyle, and sports.
