Easter is very significant to us. It is a time when we reflect on everything that was sacrificed for us. We are reminded that we are flawed and that although we did nothing to deserve it we were still offered a hand up and out of our suffering. We didn’t even have to ask for help… we were met in the middle of our struggles and our messy lives and given a fresh start.
That is exactly what we want to provide for people.
One of our core values is respect, and secondary to that is the blend of service, humility, and grace. We serve each other, our readers, and everyone we come into contact with. We understand that every life has worth and all of us have failed. We remember that helping others succeed and grow will allow us to succeed as well.
It’s so easy to get wrapped up in all of the little tasks that we have to get done on a daily basis that we forget about the bigger picture. Serving allows us to take a step outside of ourselves and remember that our ultimate goal is to love God and others. I’m so thankful to work for a company where serving is so critical that every year we are given two paid days off that are designated specifically for volunteering.
We also have a Charity Team whose sole purpose is to find ways to serve those in need, both locally and globally. While it is important to support charities monetarily, we make sure that we are also building relationships and personally reaching out to our local community.
Last year, we learned that a local mother’s children were placed in the foster care system after she had escaped an abusive relationship and was unable to provide for them. We spent an afternoon buying everything from beds, food, and strollers to chocolates and toys. A few days later, we delivered and assembled everything in her apartment. A few weeks later, her family was able to live together again under the same roof.
Our employees are also involved in volunteering at the local animal shelter, coaching sports teams for Special Olympics, serving in their churches, and much more! Many people serve because they want to impact the lives of others, but are often surprised when their own lives are impacted as well.
One of our Marketing Associates, PJ, had this to say about his time coaching for a local Special Olympics basketball team: “On a whim, I decided to volunteer for the PVSD Special Olympics basketball team and I’m so glad I did. I can’t say enough about the kids on my team. From their teamwork, character, and fun loving attitude, it was such a pleasure to have this opportunity to be their coach. I can’t wait to see what next season has in store for the PVSD Hoopsters!”
Currently, we sponsor three children who live in poverty in Ethiopia, Dominican Republic, and Ecuador. They now receive healthy meals every day, have access to an education and are taught about the love of Christ. As we continue to grow, we hope to support more kids.
We also have many employees who go on mission trips with their churches every year. Our team members have helped build houses and relationships, led vacation bible schools, provided clean water to villages, and been representations of Christ’s love to all people.
We are so blessed to have an incredible team filled with passionate servants! A mother was reunited with her family and three young children have been saved from a life of poverty because you choose to read our articles. Out of all the news and stories available to you on a daily basis, you have chosen to support us. We are so grateful for you and hope to continue to provide value to your life, so we, in turn, can help change lives.
