Truth is our primary value at Liftable Media. We passionately strive to ensure that all published content produced is accurate, factual and verified. This is a description of the multi-layered process of checks and double checks through which all Liftable original content is put.
First, story finders comb through thousands of stories a day from a plethora of sources. Each source in that list is regularly evaluated for its ongoing quality and historical veracity.
Once a story is found and titled, a writer is assigned to it. Before beginning, all writers are given specific instructions to make sure that the primary truth of the article is clear.
Whenever possible, writers verify the story with three separate primary news sources. Primary news sources are sources we have deemed to be generally trustworthy as initial reporters.
If a writer cannot find three independent primary news sources to verify the story, then he or she flags the post for editorial review. At this point, an editor must take necessary precautions to either kill the story or reasonably verify its authenticity despite relying on fewer than the required number of sources. (Examples of this might be where there is video footage of an event but only one source has that footage or when the story is exclusive to one major news source.) Though no story can authoritatively be ensured to be true because videos, photographs and even eyewitnesses can prove to be misleading or even fraudulent, we believe this process allows us to bring the most truthful content to our readers.
If an editor decides to run a post after it is flagged, the editor is putting his or her own stamp of approval on it and bears the responsibility for its publication. The editor may, and often will, choose to include a disclaimer to the reader regarding the relative verifiability of the information in the post.
If a writer finds a story he or she was given to be false or that the story finder proffered an inaccurate idea based on a misunderstanding about the story, the writer may be compensated as if they had in fact written the post, even if they did not write a word. This eliminates any incentive for authors to fail to report inaccurate stories for fear of not being paid.
As an additional safeguard, Liftable Media has put in place a financial incentive for any employee who finds a factual error in any of our content. We have also created a confidential email for feedback to the content team if there are any issues with veracity but the reader wants to remain anonymous.
While we know that every human institution is bound to have flaws, we are extremely proud of this process and believe that it reflects our high regard and unwavering commitment to the truth.
